Ana Sosa

–

Fresno, California

Ana Sosa (formerly Ann Webster, Ann Deming) has returned home to be with her Heavenly Father and her elder brother, even Jesus Christ. To those who have had the privilege to know and love Ana, it is no surprise that she loved her ESL students and thought of them often to the end.

Ana was born on August 21, 1946 in Kern County, California to Dewitt Grant Deming and Edna Louise Little. Ana enjoyed spending time with her extended family in two of her favorite places: the rural family farm and Morro Bay, CA. Ana loved small-time farming in her backyard and enjoyed growing her favorite: figs, apricots, and blood oranges. Morro Bay always brought a breath of fresh sea air, relaxation, and lots of laughter and fun.

Ana loved horses from a young age and showed winning horses at various venues in Southern California. Later in life, she drove hours to groom and prepare horses for therapy use with special-needs children with Happy Trails. Ana’s love for animals also prompted her to volunteer at the Chaffee Zoological Gardens as a docent and with the traveling Zoo mobile, bringing animals to show and educate children at schools and libraries around the San Joaquin valley. Ana also helped with Doctors Without Borders (LIGA), accompanying and assisting doctors on flights to Mexico.

Ana loved teaching. This love grew from showing people how to use basic food staples to make delicious and healthy meals, to educating children and adults about animals, and finally teaching adults English as a Second Language. Ana loved seeing the joy in the faces of her students as they understood a concept and progressed. Ana also enjoyed helping students to become citizens. She taught many classes to help prepare for the citizenship tests, and many a time would help them practice one on one and calm any fears before tests.

To really know Ana on a personal level, one need not look further than her deep and abiding faith in God. Her strong beliefs governed the way Ana lived her life--with integrity, hard work, putting the needs of others above her own, and serving those around her. She was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from her time in college to her passing.

Ana leaves behind her husband of 31 1/2 years, Alfonso Sosa; her four children, Deborah Gage (Christopher), Joshua Webster (Amy), Brenda Barlow (Aaron), and Kevin Webster; 17 grandchildren; and 3 (almost 4) great grandchildren and her tortoise Tortie.

We want to express gratitude for all of those who helped care for her through the past few years--her loving husband Alfonso and her family members, and especially most recently, Sarah Lualemaga and Wendy, Maria, and Rose from Seniors Helping Seniors.

God be with you till we meet again.
