Carmelita Malanay Hernandez

–

Fresno, California

Carmelita Malanay Hernandez, a beacon of hope and love, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026. Born on March 26, 1949, in Taguig, Manila, Philippines, Carmelita was a steadfast pillar in her community, dedicating her life to the noble pursuit of education and serving others. Her boundless compassion and unyielding faith were the cornerstones of her life, deeply touching all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

After her early education in the Philippines, Carmelita found her calling in teaching. It was during this time that she met George Hernandez, the love of her life. Together, they built a beautiful life and family, raising their daughters, Lorna and Michelle, with the values of kindness, perseverance, and faith. After a twenty-year sabbatical to focus on her family, Carmelita returned to her passion—teaching. She served her community in Lemoore, California, as an ESL teacher, empowering others through language and learning. Even in her retirement, Carmelita's dedication to education never waned, as she volunteered as an ESL teacher at Saint Peter's Church.

Carmelita was preceded in death by her adoring husband, George Hernandez (2026), and her loving parents, Moses Malanay and Dolores Pascual.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication, carried forward by her surviving family: her daughters and sons in law, Michelle and Dale Alexander and Lorna and Victor Cisneros; grandchildren, Lauren Sugui and her husband Philip Sugui, Miles Alexander, and Aidan Alexander; and great-granddaughter, Lorelai Sugui. She is also survived by her siblings, Juanito and Nelly Malanay, Jesus and Susan Malanay, and Amor and Vincent Montanez, and numerous nephews, nieces, and lifelong friends who will forever cherish her memory.

A Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church in Lemoore on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.

Carmelita's life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and education. Her spirit of kindness and unwavering dedication will continue to inspire all who knew her. In honor of Carmelita, we encourage all to share their fondest memories and upload cherished photos to her memorial page. May her legacy of love, service, and faith continue to illuminate our lives as we remember her in our hearts.
