Raymond Brenno Sartini, 88, passed away on April 22, 2026, in Fresno, California. He was born on November 23, 1937, in New Haven, Connecticut, the youngest of six children born to Brenno Sartini of Ancona, Italy, and Emilia Portivia Sartini of Moratta, Italy. A proud first-generation American, Raymond carried the values his parents brought across an ocean: hard work, open doors, and family above all else. He was referred to as a man of strong character.
Raymond grew up in New Haven, where he met and married the love of his life, Jeanette Polvani Sartini. Together they raised their two sons (just 13 months apart!) before moving to California. They first settled in Cupertino and later in Fresno, where Raymond built a life deeply rooted in community. He founded Athletic Designs, his own sporting goods company, and in his later years found a meaningful way to give back through work in funeral services while working at Whitehurst Sullivan Burns and Blair Funeral Home. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Parish and the Serra Club of Fresno, and he served his country proudly in the United States Army.
Raymond was the kind of man who made everyone feel at home. The Sartini house was where neighborhood kids gathered after games and school. He coached Little League, was a devoted fan of the Giants and Warriors, and brought that same passion to his children and grandchildren. He was funny, curious, well-read, and always up for a good conversation over a cup of coffee with friends.
He is survived by his son Peter Sartini (Heather Meeker); his grandchildren Hunter Sartini, Savannah Sartini Capasso (Corey Capasso), and Sidney Sartini; and his great-granddaughter, Story Capasso.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeanette; his son, Raymond Sartini Jr.; and his siblings, Paul, Dante, Nelson, Albert Sartini, and Jeanette Sartini Nieman.
Raymond was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He leaves behind a family who adored him and a community that is better for having known him.
We invite all who knew and loved Raymond to join us in a Committal Service on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the Belmont Memorial Park, located at 201 North Teilman Avenue, Fresno, California, 93706.
